Frequently Asked Questions
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is the practice of consciously changing the way you breathe in order to influence your nervous system in a specific way.
When we are stressed, our breath becomes short and shallow. When we slow the breath down, the nervous system receives signals of safety, helping the body shift from stress mode into calm, clarity, and focus.
At People of the Prana, we teach simple and structured breathing practices that help you learn how to regulate your nervous system using one of the most powerful tools you already have—your breath.
Why does breathing matter so much?
Your breath is directly connected to your nervous system.
When you are stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, your breathing automatically speeds up and becomes shallow. Over time, many people stay stuck in this stress-breathing pattern without realizing it.
Learning how to slow and regulate your breath is one of the fastest ways to help your body return to a calmer and more balanced state.
In other words: When you change your breath, you change your state of mind and how you feel, instantly.
What makes People of the Prana different?
Many breathing practices are either too complicated or too abstract for people to use in daily life.
People of the Prana focuses on simple, practical breathing techniques that can be used in real-world situations—before a stressful meeting, after a long day, or when your nervous system needs to reset.
Our Beat + Breath method combines rhythmic breathing with guided practice so that anyone can learn to calm their nervous system in just a few minutes.
Is this program right for me?
People of the Prana is designed for people who feel overwhelmed by modern life and want practical tools to manage stress.
Many of our students are:
• therapists and mental health professionals
• healthcare workers
• educators and social workers
• entrepreneurs and business leaders
• busy parents
• anyone feeling burned out or constantly “on”
If you’re looking for simple ways to calm your mind and regulate your nervous system, this work is for you.
Do I need experience with yoga or meditation?
Not at all.
Our practices are designed to be accessible to beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
If you can breathe, you can do this.
What if I’m terrible at meditation?
You’re in the right place.
Many people struggle with meditation because they are asked to sit still with their thoughts without any guidance.
Breathing practices give your mind something to focus on and your body a rhythm to follow. This makes it much easier for many people to settle their nervous system and experience calm.
What if I don’t have time?
Most of our breathing practices are 3–11 minutes long.
They are designed to fit easily into a busy day. Even a few minutes of conscious breathing can help reset your nervous system and shift your state.
Sometimes the people who need this the most are the ones who feel they have the least time.
When should I practice?
Anytime your nervous system needs support.
Many people practice:
• in the morning to start the day calm and focused
• during stressful moments
• before important conversations or meetings
• in the evening to unwind and prepare for sleep
There is no perfect time—only the time when your body needs it.
How quickly will I feel the effects?
Most people feel a shift within a few minutes of practicing.
With consistent practice, your breathing patterns begin to change and your nervous system becomes more resilient to stress.
Like any skill, the benefits deepen over time.
Can breathwork help with anxiety?
Breathing practices can help regulate the nervous system and reduce the physiological symptoms of stress and anxiety.
Anxiety often involves faster, shallow breathing patterns. Learning to slow and regulate your breath can help bring the body back toward a calmer state.
Breathwork can be a powerful complement to therapy, medication, or other wellness practices.
Is breathwork safe?
Yes. The breathing practices taught in People of the Prana are gentle, slow, and designed to support nervous system regulation.
If you have a medical condition, respiratory issues, or are pregnant, you should consult your healthcare provider before beginning any new breathing practice.
Do you actually practice what you teach?
Yes. Around here, breathing isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we practice every day.
People of the Prana was created by therapists, educators, and wellness practitioners who live full lives while supporting others. The breathing techniques we teach are the same ones we use personally, with our clients, and within our community.
We’re not just teaching breathing.
We’re breathing right alongside you.
How can I learn these skills live?
Many of our programs are offered live, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, receive real-time guidance, and practice alongside others.
Learning breathwork within a group can make the experience more supportive and engaging.
We also host in-person retreats and workshops at the SEED Lodge, where you can immerse yourself in these practices in a beautiful natural setting. These retreats allow you to slow down, deepen your understanding of breathwork, and experience nervous system regulation within a supportive community.
What benefits can I expect?
Many people report experiencing:
• reduced stress and anxiety
• improved focus and clarity
• better sleep
• increased emotional regulation
• greater resilience to daily stress
• a deeper sense of calm throughout the day
Small shifts in breathing can create meaningful shifts in how you feel.
What if I fall asleep during the practice?
That happens more often than you might think.
Falling asleep can be a sign that your nervous system is finally relaxing. If it happens, simply smile and come back to the practice the next time.
Rest is part of the process.
How do I access the program after signing up?
Once you register, you’ll receive instructions by email on how to access your materials, recordings, and practices.
Everything is designed to be simple and accessible so you can begin practicing right away.

Can I practice on my phone?
Yes. All practices can be accessed on your phone, tablet, or computer, so you can breathe wherever you are.
Is there a community I can join?
Yes. Many members join our morning breathing practice, where we gather online to breathe together and start the day with calm and intention.
Practicing together can help create accountability and make it easier to maintain a consistent practice.
